A life full of light.
Giovanni Emil Zappitelli was a bright, joyful child whose infectious smile and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him. From his earliest years, he had a natural gift for bringing people together and making others feel seen.
When Giovanni was taken from us far too soon, his family and community were devastated. But in the depths of that grief, a powerful question emerged: How do we make sure his light never goes out?
That question became the seed of The GIO Foundation. What started as a small act of love — organizing a back-to-school event in Giovanni's honor — quickly grew into something much bigger. The community rallied, families showed up, and a movement was born.
Today, the GIO Foundation serves thousands of children each year through intentional community driven programs; Kicks & Cuts, GIO Fest, the annual Toy Giveaway, and GIO University. Every initiative is rooted in the same values Giovanni embodied — generosity, kindness, and the belief that every child deserves to feel special.
Looking ahead, our vision is bold: to expand our reach, deepen our programs, and ensure that Giovanni's legacy of love and leadership continues to inspire generations of young people. Because when we go inspire others, we honor the boy who inspired us first.
